Dangote to Begin Sea Transport of Refined Products — Official

Gbadamosi Azeezah

Dangote Group has announced plans to transport refined petroleum products via sea routes, a strategic move to boost distribution efficiency and alleviating road congestion.

This information was disclosed by Fatima Wali-Abdurrahman, the Senior Adviser to the Group President on Special Projects and Strategic Relations, in a statement released on Sunday.

Wali-Abdurrahman emphasized the ongoing construction of a jetty in the Lekki Free Zone, designed to facilitate the handling of bulk cargoes as part of the refinery's development.

She noted that the company is currently exporting products to various African nations through seaports and intends to further ease road traffic by utilizing maritime transport for distributing finished products along Nigeria's coastline.

The initiative is expected to significantly reduce pressure on Nigeria's road networks while promoting exports to neighboring countries.

This development comes as the Dangote Group participated as a major sponsor in a trade fair organized by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where it showcased its newly operational oil refinery.

The event drew considerable interest, with many attendees eager to explore business opportunities within the company’s diverse sectors, which include Dangote Fertiliser, Dangote Sugar, NASCON, and Dangote Cement.

Participants expressed enthusiasm about potential collaborations. One attendee, Peter Ibrahim, highlighted his interest in discovering job and business opportunities at the Dangote Refinery, while cement dealer Sale Sagir shared his motivation for attending the fair was to learn about becoming a distributor for Dangote’s petroleum products.

In addition to its petroleum initiatives, Wali-Abdurrahman pointed out the company’s commitment to sustainability through investments in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

She stated that approximately one-third of their fleet has been converted to CNG over the past decade, with plans for complete conversion underway.
