NDIC Chief Urges Banking Sector to Prioritize Cybersecurity

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Deposit Insurance Corporation, Bello Hassan, has emphasized the importance of cybersecurity for bankers in Nigeria.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of Professor Pius Olanrewaju as the 23rd president/chairman of the council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria in Lagos, Hassan highlighted the need for a collaborative approach to cyber risk involving all stakeholders to safeguard the resilience of the banking system.

During the event, Justice Owolabi Dabiri administered the oath of office to Professor Olanrewaju, with Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wole Olanipekun, presiding over the ceremony.

In a goodwill message, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, represented by Chairman of the House Committee on Banking, Nwachukwu Eze, commended the outgoing CIBN President, Ken Opara, and urged the new leadership to embrace technology for enhanced financial inclusion.

Addressing the evolving landscape of the banking sector driven by technological advancements and regulatory changes, Eze emphasized the importance of excellence, innovation, and collaboration within the industry.

He stressed the significance of financial inclusion and sustainable development, highlighting the need to address the challenges faced by millions of Nigerians excluded from the formal banking sector.

Chairman of the occasion, Olanipekun, emphasized the pivotal role of the CIBN in shaping government policies and called for a more proactive engagement in advising on critical measures and fiscal policies.
