NNPC and TotalEnergies to Invest $550 Million in Gas Sector

Gbadamosi Azeezah

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and TotalEnergies (TTEF) have announced a joint investment of $550 million to develop a gas processing facility in Rivers State. The project aims to boost both domestic gas supplies and exports, according to an NNPC source speaking to Reuters.

The investment will include the construction of a gas processing plant and a pipeline. The facility will be built on the Ubeta onshore gas field, which is jointly owned by Total and NNPC. Once operational, the plant will supply gas to the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) plant.

The gas processing facility is expected to generate 350 million standard cubic feet per day of gas and 10,000 barrels per day of associated liquids when completed.

This project is significant, as Nigeria, which holds Africa's largest natural gas reserves, has historically flared gas due to a lack of processing infrastructure and capital constraints.
