The Child Protection Network (CPN) in Lagos and Ogun states has received a significant boost in its efforts to enhance child protection for vulnerable children, thanks to a N50 million service provision grant.
The funding, which allocates N25 million to each state, was officially presented at the SOS Children’s Village in Lagos.
Eghosa Erhumwunse, the Country Director of SOS Children’s Villages, praised CPN for its vital role in safeguarding child welfare and highlighted its ongoing initiatives across Nigeria.
This grant is set to benefit approximately 130,000 children, with 70,000 in Ogun State and 60,000 in Lagos State.
During the presentation, Erhumwunse outlined the expectations from CPN, stressing the need for grassroots service provisions to tackle various child-related challenges. Key focus areas include addressing gender-based violence, effective case management, establishing community child protection committees, promoting water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and advocating for family courts dedicated to child protection cases.
He urged CPN to actively engage with communities and advocate for children's rights while working towards eliminating harmful cultural practices. "Awareness and sensitization campaigns are critical in ensuring the safety and protection of children’s lives," he stated.
Erhumwunse also reiterated SOS’s zero-tolerance policy for fraud and encouraged CPN to enhance its internal mechanisms to fortify their partnership.
He reminded attendees of the importance of adhering to strict procedures that prioritize transparency and accountability in their work with children.
In his welcome address, Adelopo Ayodeji, Chief Programme Officer of SOS Lagos, expressed gratitude to CPN for their commitment to community welfare. He viewed the grant as a promising opportunity for impactful collaboration.
