LASU Triumphs in 2024 Umezulike National Debate Competition

Lagos State University (LASU) has emerged victorious in the 2024 Justice Innocent Umezulike National Debate Competition, outperforming teams from over 20 law faculties across Nigeria.

The competition, which was open to all undergraduate students this year, featured four stages of intense competition.

The final round pitted LASU (Team Beryl) against Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (Team Sapphire). LASU was represented by Oladipupo Olalekan (Speaker), Ajeniya Oluwagbemiga (Speaker), and Musendiku Mulikat (Researcher), who secured the win.

Ahmadu Bello University, represented by Elizabeth Chris (Speaker), Yusuf Olatunji (Speaker), Ephraim Edokpa (Researcher), and Mustapha Hauwau (Researcher), finished as the first runner-up.

Notably, Oladipupo of LASU, a Computer Science student, was named the Best Speaker.

The competition was organized by the Hon. Justice Innocent Umezulike Foundation, which aims to advance excellent legal education and research, as per the legacy of the late Justice Umezulike, an acclaimed Professor of Land and Property Law with over 25 published books and the longest-serving Chief Justice in the South East.
