The Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria has urged the Federal Government to focus on depoliticizing agriculture by establishing a community data bank for authentic farmers in all support initiatives.

This call was made during their 3rd National Conference, themed “Strategic Solutions for Good Governance, Food Security and Sustainable Growth in Nigeria,” held earlier this week at the Abuja Continental Hotel.

In a comprehensive 16-point communique signed by key figures including Mukhtar Shehu Shagari and Barr. Hazeem Gbolarumi, the forum emphasized the need for the government to create agricultural hubs and enhance security around these areas, supported by community vigilante groups.

They advocated for the integration of modern technology in agriculture, such as advanced equipment and high-yield seeds, to significantly increase food production. Additionally, they called for a revitalization of the Bank of Agriculture to fulfill its responsibilities effectively.

The forum highlighted the urgent necessity to strengthen agricultural institutions and foster connections with relevant research centers. They also recommended promoting youth entrepreneurship through agricultural extension centers and demonstration farms.

Stressing that good governance is crucial for achieving food security and sustainable growth, the forum linked these goals to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu's administration.

They encouraged governors to maintain harmonious relationships with their deputies to support democratic governance.

In closing remarks, Comrade Chris Akomas, the convener of the conference, reiterated the forum’s commitment to providing constructive suggestions aimed at fostering a nation where citizens can thrive due to effective governance.
