NAFDAC Warns Against Use of Recalled Nivea Black & White Deodorant

Gbadamosi Azeezah

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a recall alert for Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant (50ml), which is marketed as providing 48-hour protection in African climates.

This action follows a warning from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products in Brussels.

In a notice released on Thursday, NAFDAC identified the affected batch number as 93529610.

The agency stated that the deodorant contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a chemical banned in cosmetic products due to its potential reproductive health risks, including harm to unborn children and skin irritation.

Manufactured in Germany, the product carries the bar code number 42299882. NAFDAC has urged importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to remain vigilant and avoid the sale or use of this specific batch of deodorant.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled product are advised to stop using it immediately and return any remaining stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

The agency also encourages healthcare professionals and consumers to report any adverse reactions associated with this or other regulated products through its official channels, including email and E-reporting platforms.
