6 Nigerian Travellers Arrested In Brazil For Ingesting Cocaine

Idongesit Udoewah

Six Nigerians were apprehended at São Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport in Brazil after trying to board a flight to Ethiopia while carrying cocaine capsules in their stomachs.

One of the suspects was acting strangely when police officers were performing routine checks on passengers waiting to board the flight to Ethiopia at Guarulhos International Airport in the southeastern city of São Paulo, prompting authorities to search the man and his hand luggage.

The passenger admitted to ingesting the Type-A party drug contained in small plastic bags.

His accomplices, all males, were subjected to the same test, confirming that they had come into contact with the powdery narcotic.

X-rays revealed that a number of the suspects had consumed 100 to 150 capsules. They were immediately taken to a medical facility for the drugs to be expelled.

Three of the men were scheduled to arrive in Kano State from Ethiopia.

Three of the suspects had previously entered Brazil seeking asylum, and one was apprehended on an arrest warrant at Guarulhos International Airport in 2017.
