The reigning Miss United States of America (USA) Noelia Voigt has chosen to resign her title due to mental health reasons.

Expressing her belief, Ms Voigt, the winner of the annual competition in September 2023, stated the importance of making decisions that feel best for you and your mental health.

She wrote on her Instagram handle “Never compromise your physical and mental wellbeing, Our health is our wealth.”

According to BBC, the Miss USA organization confirmed its support for her decision and is set to announce a successor.

The 24-year-old Venezuelan-American from Utah expressed her hope to "continue inspiring others" as she embarks on "a new chapter" in life.

In her statement, Ms Voigt emphasized the importance of prioritizing mental health, advocating for oneself and others, and facing the future without fear, even in uncertainty.

She expressed gratitude for her time as Miss USA, stating that it provided her with a “platform … to make a difference,” helped her achieve a “lifelong dream,” and allowed her to meet “people all over the world.”

Miss USA showed appreciation towards Ms Voigt and highlighted on Instagram that the top priority is the well-being of their titleholders.

The organisation stated that it was evaluating plans for the "transition of responsibilities to a successor".

Savannah Gankiewicz of Hawaii came second to Ms Voigt in last year’s competition.
