The police have apprehended a female police officer who was the aide-de-camp to the immediate former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, over an accusation of being part of the security aides that blocked the arrest of the former governor in Abuja.

The ADC was apprehended, along with other police officers attached to Bello. They are being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja.

According to a witness from the police, their apprehension and detention followed a directive by the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, instructing their instant withdrawal from the former governor.

The witness who spoke to journalists on the condition of anonymity emphasised that the officers were apprehended on the suspicion that they intentionally aided and abetted Bello’s escape from personnel of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who had gone to effect his arrest at his Abuja home on Wednesday.

Recall that the Inspector-General of Police had on Thursday instructed the withdrawal of all police officers attached to Bello.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has also placed Bello on its monitoring list for conspiracy, breach of trust, and money laundering.

The Assistant Comptroller General of Immigrations signed the document and copied the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Customs Service, and the Director of the National Internet Agency.
