The Anambra State House of Assembly confirmed on Thursday, June 20, 2024, the appointment of transition committee chairmen and councillors for the 21 local government areas of the state.

The House confirmed the appointments because they complied with Section 208 of the Local Government Law, which was amended in 1999. This action fulfilled a request made by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The following are the newly appointed chairmen: Fidelis Nnazo (Anambra West), Romanus Ibekwe (Anaocha), Ifeanyi Chiweze (Anambra East), Alphonsus Ofumele (Ayamelum), Chinedu Okafor (Awka South), Chijioke Ozumba (Dunukofia), and Stanley Nkwoka (Idemili North).

Others include Val Ezeogidi (Nnewi South), Franklin Nwadialu (Ogbaru), Chinedu Ononiba (Njikoka), Casimir Nwafor (Orumba North), Anthony Nwaora (Onitsha North), and Shedrack Azubuike (Orumba South).

Eight of them were re-appointed, and they are: Thankgod Aniagor (Awka North), Amaka Obi (Idemili South), Chibuike Ofobuike (Aguata), Anayo Orjiakor (Ihiala), Emeka Orji (Onitsha South), Chris Obiora (Nnewi North), Emma Nweke (Oyi), and Chimezie Obi (Ekwusigo).

The appointed local government transition committee will hold their positions for an initial period of three months at the first instance.

The Speaker of the House, Somtochukwu Udeze, while congratulating the newly confirmed chairmen, also warned them to stay on track and avoid mistakes, as most Anambra citizens place high hopes on them.

Udeze urged the new chairmen to meet the high standards expected of them. He emphasised cooperation with their team members, community stakeholders, and Governor Soludo's goals.

The speaker said, “Many Anambra indigenes are putting their hopes in your hands. There is every need for all of you to be focused.

“Work together with your councillors and community leaders. The success of the local communities depends on you. Don't let the people down."
