The Nigeria Customs Service, on February 23, 2024, began the sale of seized bags of rice to the public at the rate of N10,000 per 25kg.

Comptroller General of the NCS, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, while revealing this to journalists in Lagos hinted that the process for the sale of the food items had been improved such that a form with all the details of the applicant including the National Identification Number, NIN, will be presented and a bar code will be generated for the assembling of the products.

Adeniyi affirmed that ten registration points will be unfolded for the general public with a view to easing the buying process.

Meanwhile, he added that the move to sell the seized items is to crash the price of food items and strengthen the worth of the Naira.

He cautioned Nigerians against the resale of purchased rice stressing that anybody seen reselling will be apprehended and possibly prosecuted.

Adeniyi emphasized that the distribution of these seized items will be for a period of time noting that very poor Nigerians were the target for this gesture.
