Damaturu Plunged Into Darkness After Vandals Target TCN Tower

Gbadamosi Azeezah

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported another incident of vandalism on its transmission infrastructure, plunging Yobe and Borno states into darkness.

According to TCN's General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the vandals targeted tower No. T372 along the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at around 1:44 am. The attackers cut off all four tower footings, causing the collapse of the structure.

This latest incident comes just months after TCN had repaired the same transmission line following previous acts of vandalism. The company has expressed its commitment to restoring power to the affected areas as soon as possible.

TCN has also called on citizens to be vigilant in protecting these critical national assets and to report any suspicious activities or individuals near transmission infrastructure to law enforcement agencies or TCN offices in the vicinity.

The company has assured that work will commence immediately to dismantle and evacuate the collapsed tower for reconstruction, emphasizing its dedication to the quick restoration of bulk power supply to Yobe and Borno states.
