Democracy that Bring Poverty, Backwardness Must be Thrown Away-OBJ

Emmanuella Amarachi Ozioko

The Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Friday, called on leaders at all levels to embrace a form of democracy that creates prosperity rather than one that makes the people suffer.

He made the call while delivering a keynote address at the inauguration of the reconstructed 34.85km Oyo-Iseyin road in Oyo state.

The former president stressed that a form of democracy that nurtures poverty, insecurity and unemployment, and allows the people to enjoy the dividend of democracy must be thrown away.

Similarly, he urged Oyo State to invest in agriculture for food sustainability, adding that the state must focus on the cultivation of some certain crops that will stand them out among other states across the nation.

In his remarks, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state, disclosed that the construction of the road and other road projects in the state is in line with his administration’s plan to connect all the five zones in the state as well as curb rural urban migration.

While noting that his administration would subsequently complete other road projects in the state, including all internal roads across the state.
