A female lawyer identified as Adaobi Nweke, two other men and two ladies have been apprehended in Umuahia, the Abia State capital following their posession of illicit drugs. It was gathered that drugs worth 1,217kg were seized from them.

Nweke was apprehended together with others at number 23 Arochukwu Street by Calabar Road, Umuahia the state capital. 

This was revealed in Umuahia by the Abia State Deputy Governor of, Ikechukwu Emetu.

He disclosed that the State Government, in partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Abia Command, made the apprehension and seizure during a collective operation carried out in Umuahia.

Chukwunenye Alajemba, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Homeland security affirmed that on the night of February 14, his office in partnership with officials of NDLEA, conducted a successful joint operation on the home of the arrested suspects on Calabar Street, Umuahia, where the joint team seized a huge amount of illicit drugs like cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine otherwise known as mkpurumiri and half a million naira.

He equally disclosed that the operatives raided a popular hotel around the Downbelow area, in Umuahia.
