The Federal Government has begun demolishing a section of multiple Lagos beaches, specifically the Mami Chula Beach Lifestyle area, to create space for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. David Umahi, the Minister of Works, supervised the demolition on Saturday, after reviewing kilometre marks 13, 16, and 20, to determine the most cost-effective and least destructive path for the coastal road.

Umahi explained that the demolition was necessary because the facility was constructed on land designated as the Federal Government's right-of-way. Several structures will be affected by the demolition, and compensation will be paid. Though there are oppositions to the project, Umahi emphasized its relevance to economic growth.

He promised that the affected individuals would be well compensated, and the paperwork process would begin between May 2 and May 3. The Minister stated that he would be available throughout the week to address any concerns regarding confirmation or demolition fees.

Umahi had extended the grace period by seven and then four days before the demolition of the landmark began. He commended Bolaji (Ariyo), who is mainly affected by the project, as the only infrastructure he could see that would be affected.

In response, Mr. Bolaji Ariyo, Chief Executive Officer of Mami Chula Beach, acknowledged the project's importance for development, despite the inconvenience it may cause a few people
