Fire guts Muritala International Airport

The incident occurred at approximately 0750 hours when a smoke incident was reported at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos. The source of the smoke was traced to the basement of the Terminal building.

Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, stated, "Promptly responding to the situation, the dedicated firefighters from the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport initiated immediate action. Their swift response and professional efforts have successfully brought the situation under control."

In line with their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers, staff, and all airport users, the Terminal building was swiftly evacuated due to the smoke affecting some areas of the facility.

FAAN reported that the situation is currently under control, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to safety, security, and passenger comfort.
