Fraudsters Hack Gov Otu’s Phone Number, Request Financial Aid

Emmanuella Amarachi Ozioko

A phone number owned by the Cross Rivers State Governor, Bassey Otu has been hacked. Reports by newsmen stated that those behind the act are seeking financial assistance from members of the public.

However, a press release made available yesterday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Ogbeche, drew attention of the public to the incident, noting that people should disregard unsolicited messages seeking financial assistance. It added that one of the governor’s phone numbers had been compromised.

“There have been apprehensions in many quarters over unsolicited messages allegedly from Governor Otu requesting financial aid. The public is advised to disregard any such messages purportedly from the governor.

“One of the governor’s mobile numbers was breached by hi-tech criminals in the early hours of  February 11, 2024. The hackers have gone on to utilize the breached number to advance their nefarious activities to try to scam unsuspecting members of the public. Please, do not fall for such devious attempts.

“The hacked number has been recovered while relevant security agencies are working to arrest those behind this obnoxious act,” Ogbeche reiterated.
