Give Birth to Children You Can Train, Says Soludo

Emmanuella Amarachi Ozioko

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has urged parents in the state to give birth to children they can afford to train, taking into consideration their financial status, or adopting birth control measures that are safe and conducive for them.

Speaking at an event commemorating his second year in office as the Governor of Anambra State, yesterday in Awka, the governor noted that the advice became necessary due to some indications that pregnant women from neighboring states are taking advantage of free maternal care in public health care facilities in Anambra state.

Soludo disclosed that the free maternal care also includes Cesarean Session for women with complications that are a threat to their life and unborn baby.

The Anambra governor noted that before the free ante-natal care was made public by the state government, the number of women that attend ante-natal and give birth in the public health care facilities was of minor importance, but since the free services were revealed, the number rose to thousands.

“In fact, pregnant women from other states come to benefit from the free maternal services, but we allow them since we are good and accommodating people. We don’t treat individuals based on their state, tribe, or political affiliation. My only advice for these women is for them to produce children that they can adequately care for” he stressed.

Governor Soludo also listed several other accomplishments he has recorded in the past two years as governor of the state, including human capital development, security, and infrastructures, and equally noted the problems he had encountered over the years.

He promised Anambra indigenes of improved infrastructure and standard of living, emphasizing that the state government is doing several things to provide a better life for the current and coming generations of Anambra people.
