Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde officially launched the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Wednesday, with an investment of N41 billion.

The ground-breaking ceremony took place at the airport premises, where the governor announced that the project is expected to be completed within 12 months.

Since taking office in 2019, Governor Makinde has prioritized the enhancement of the airport as part of his vision to transform Ibadan into a regional business hub in the South-West.

He emphasized that this initiative is a crucial step toward combating poverty and fostering economic growth.

“Our focus is on fighting poverty, not the poor,” he stated, acknowledging the current economic challenges while highlighting the potential benefits of the project.

The governor explained that modernizing the airport will improve transportation infrastructure, making it more attractive for businesses, tourists, and investors.

He noted that this upgrade is essential for connecting Oyo State to the global economy and facilitating economic activities.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who attended as a special guest, praised Makinde for his commitment to developmental projects and expressed his willingness to collaborate on initiatives that would benefit both states.
