The Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State have been requested by Save the Poor and Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI) to investigate claims of the forcible displacement of some Ogbomoso residents by land grabbers.

To prevent a collapse of law and order in Ogbomoso territory, SPANCI urged Makinde, Egbetokun, and the state's commissioner for justice to enter the situation.

The organization's president made the request in a letter addressed to the governor.

In the letter, Bello praised Makinde and the Oyo State House of Assembly for passing and signing the state anti-land grabbing law. However, Bello expressed concern that some land-grabbing individuals and security personnel at the Owode area command have continued to forcibly evict Ogbomoso residents from their properties.

Bello said that it was improper for security personnel to work with land speculators to evict innocent people from their homes.

Bello said, “Let me appreciate Governor Seyi Makinde, Oyo State House of Assembly for the real property protection and anti-land grabbing law and task force. Also, the Chairman and the entire task force on anti-land grabbing and real property protection, the Nigeria Police and other law enforcement agencies and the task force for doing credible work and fighting against land grabbing and land grabbers in Oyo State

”We bring to the notice of the general public the unbecoming and unprofessional character of some men of Owode Area Command in the gross act of rubbishing the Oyo State anti-land grabbing and real property protection task force and also taking jurisdiction of the matter before her.

“Our belief is that police lack jurisdiction on such matters and it is a wrong and unprofessional conduct on their side to punish the innocent in favor of the land grabbers.
