Gunmen on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway in Ogun State killed one passenger and kidnapped seven others.

The incident happened around 6:55 p.m. on Sunday, near the Ilisan, Ceplast industry, and Iperu junction areas. The gunmen, who were said to be around seven and heavily armed with AK-47 rifles, robbed the passengers before taking them hostage.

Police confirmed the incident on Tuesday, classifying it as armed robbery, murder, and kidnapping.

According to a voice recording from one of the victims, a driver travelling to Lagos, the gunmen opened fire with their AK-47 rifles, forcing them off the road and into the bush.

He said, "They shot everywhere and killed someone in a Lexus. They took seven of us into the bush. When I realised they spoke Hausa, I pleaded with them in Hausa, saying they shouldn't kill me. They asked if I was from the north, and I lied, saying I used to live in Kebbi and Sokoto.

"They took us into the forest and demanded money. I gave them 103,000 naira and my phone. Another driver mentioned they took 120,000 naira from him. They eventually released two of us, but the others are still with them."
