Hoodlums invaded the Samsung Plaza, a popular mobile phone and accessories shop located along Aminu Kano Crescent in Wuse II, Abuja, and looted the showroom on Monday night.

Nkechi Isa, the FCT Emergency Management (FEMA) Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident.

Mrs Isa claimed that men from the Federal Fire Service (FFS) who had been dispatched to put out the fire were attacked by hoodlums who were looting the burning store.

Passers-by were also seen running for safety in a video that went viral on social media, while others lamented as they watched helplessly as the edifice burned.

"Hoodlums attacked men of the Federal Fire Service who were sent to quench the fire, so they had to request reinforcement from the Police and NSCDC," a spokesperson for FEMA said.

She stated that, while the cause of the fire was unknown, efforts were made to put it out.

In a similar incident earlier on Monday, two people died and two others were hospitalized after a section of the Canadian High Commission in Abuja was destroyed by fire caused by a defective generator.
