A statement from FAAN, dated September 1, 2023, revealed that the committee's formation was a direct result of a briefing provided to the minister.

The statement, signed by Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, outlined the committee's mandate as directed by Minister Keyamo. The committee's primary objectives are to assess revenue potential from advertisements at airports, ticketing across all FAAN facilities, and exemptions on payments for FAAN services.

The full statement reads:

"During a briefing with the FAAN Management, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), identified numerous untapped opportunities to enhance the agency's revenue profile.

"In light of this, the Minister has instructed that these potential revenue sources be fully explored.

"As a result, the Minister has convened a committee, chaired by the Permanent Secretary, to examine the following areas:

- Advertising opportunities at airports

- Ticketing procedures at all FAAN facilities

- Waivers for payments related to FAAN services

"The Committee has been granted a four-week period to compile a comprehensive report and propose solutions."
