Police from the Isokoko Division of the Lagos State Police Command successfully raided an illicit distillery in Agege, Lagos, marking a significant step forward in the fight against fake alcoholic drinks.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of four people suspected of being the ringleaders of this criminal activity, as well as the seizure of a stockpile of fake beverages, empty bottles, and counterfeit labels.

This was confirmed by the command's spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Thursday. The raid, which according to Hundeyin began with a tip-off, further uncovered an illegal operation producing counterfeit variants of popular alcoholic drinks.

The police's swift action not only led to multiple arrests but also prevented potentially harmful products from reaching consumers. This incident sheds light on the larger issue of counterfeit drinks circulating in the market, posing serious health hazards to unsuspecting buyers.

The Lagos State Police, in collaboration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), have been aggressively trying to combat such unlawful operations.

The recent operation is part of a larger campaign to combat the rise of counterfeit products, which endangers public health and safety and damage the economy.
