The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the devastating fire incident that led to the tragic death of a three-year-old child, identified simply as Michael, in Ejigbo, Lagos State.

The incident occurred late at night, around 11:10 p.m., at Olorunsogo Street, Ejigbo, when a fire resulting from a melted candle engulfed their compound.

According to reports, the fire originated from a candle that had melted in one of the rooms, quickly spreading to other parts of the compound.

The intensity of the blaze resulted in the destruction of 10 rooms and properties worth millions of naira. Tragically, young Michael, the son of Mr. Ayo, was caught in the inferno and suffered fatal burns.

A resident of the area, identified as Dapo, recounted the harrowing scene, noting the total destruction of the houses within the compound and the heartbreaking loss of the child's life.

Despite the efforts of the Lagos State Firefighters and other emergency response teams, including the Lagos State Ambulance Service, Michael's remains were evacuated from the scene.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, assured that the situation was under control, with ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fire. Hundeyin emphasized the importance of monitoring the area closely while authorities conducted their inquiries.

This tragic incident adds to the recent spate of fire-related disasters in Lagos State, according to reports.

Just days prior, a gas explosion in the Ojokoro area left 11 families homeless after engulfing their homes. The explosion, originating from a cooking gas mishap, quickly spread through the building, destroying multiple rooms and displacing numerous families.
