Nasarawa: Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Alleged Child Theft

The theft of a newborn baby from the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH), Lafia, is the subject of an investigation, according to the Nasarawa State Police Command.

The revelation was made on Wednesday in Lafia during a meeting with reporters by Umar Nadada, the State's Commissioner of Police (CP).

Nadada clarified that on Tuesday, January 9, a Suleiman Abdullahi from Lafia reported the incident to the police.

According to him, the man reported the incident to the A-Division Police Station Lafia, stating that his wife delivered at the hospital via Cesarean Section (CS) at DASH and that the child was stolen.

The CP further stated that the father of the kidnapped child claimed that a strange woman who had been introduced to his wife by a relative who was taking care of het her at the hospital had taken the one-day-old infant.

During initial investigations, he said, the caregiver trusted an unidentified group of people to take care of the mother and infant, and those women took the child.

The Commissioner said, three individuals have been taken into custody thus far, and they are being held at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Lafia.

He added that a large number of other medical staff members were asked to be questioned in an effort to identify the culprit.

Nadada added that the hospital administration was supporting the police in their case investigation.
