The Nigerian Police Force hasannounced that its officers will no longer abuse suspects whenever they are apprehended and held in custody.

ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Public Relations Officer of the Force, disclosed this in an interview with journalists on Tuesday, March 2, 2024.

He made the revelation after a report of the arrest of some suspected murderers of a Divisional Police Officer in Rivers State.

Adejobi affirmed that the Force is aware of the provisions of the Anti-Torture Act 2017 and is conducting professional interviews.

 The force spokesperson said the police do not need to abuse anyone to get the required information, noting that though it may take them time to get information from suspects, they will surely get the information. 

He stated, "We don’t abuse people in the police again. That era has gone. We are now carrying out what we call interview and cross-examination sessions in a professional way to get them.
