Notorious Female Kidnapper Nabbed During Ransom Pick-up In Taraba

A suspected notorious female kidnapper, Janet Igohia, has been apprehended by Nigerian Army troops from 93 Battalion under 6 Brigade while she was attempting to collect a ransom paid by the family of a victim who had been abducted in Taraba State.

While Addressing newsmen yesterday, Lieutenant Oni Olubodunde, the Brigade spokesperson, stated that the 31-year-old female Janet Igohia was arrested after collecting N1.5 million as ransom for an abducted victim in Chanchangi area in Takum LGA of the state.


Igohia, he said, was married to Voryor Gata, a known criminal and former second-in-command to the late Gana Terwase, a neutralised militia commander in neighbouring Benue State.

He said “She is currently married to the leader of a violent extremist group in southern Taraba. According to her, she had previously been married to high profile criminals such as late Terkibi Gemaga aka Mopol, a notorious kidnapper who was killed by troops five years ago.

They also apprehended a notorious gunrunner who trafficked in arms and ammunition and supplied it to criminals in the state and across the country.

Lieutenant Olubodunde also said that the troops, working on credible intelligence on the activities of the arms dealer, arrested the suspect, Joshua Dutse Idah.

The 45-year-old Idah was arrested in a Blue Volkswagen Sharon vehicle, with registration number Rivers SKN-390AA.

He said, “On interrogation, Dutse confessed he was going to Katsina State to bring in AK 47 Rifles and that he received part payment of 300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira).

“After a thorough search on the vehicle, troops recovered 1 PK Machine Gun, Quantity 399 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition, and 3 AK 47 Rifle Magazines.

In addition, Lieutenant Oni added that the Troops are fully charged to dismantle all criminal networks operating in Taraba in order to ensure the safety of local residents.
