The Osun State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Igbalawole Sotiyo, has stressed the importance of collaboration among security forces to effectively combat crime and maintain public safety.

During a courtesy visit to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Patrick Ogong Edung at the Zone 11 Command Headquarters in Osogbo, Sotiyo reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to building stronger partnerships with other security agencies in the fight against crime.

Addressing a recent altercation in which NSCDC personnel were assaulted by officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Osun, Sotiyo called on the police leadership to address conflicts that arise between security agencies.

He expressed his concern over the incident, noting that public servants are governed by the Public Service Rules (PSR), which prohibit physical confrontations. “When conflicts arise, they should be resolved peacefully by higher authorities for the sake of harmony,” Sotiyo stated.

AIG Edung, who oversees Zone 11 covering Osun and Oyo States, thanked Sotiyo for the visit and highlighted the need for inter-agency cooperation. He acknowledged that no single agency could tackle Nigeria’s security issues alone and emphasized that cooperation is key to national security. Edung noted that inter-service rivalry often stems from lower ranks, while senior officers generally maintain strong partnerships. He condemned the clash between NSCDC and police officers as a “public disgrace” and confirmed that an impartial investigation, ordered by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, is underway.

The meeting reinforced the shared mission of the NSCDC and police to foster peace and security across the state.
