Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has advised leaders to focus more on food security, with an emphasis on ‘stomach infrastructure’.

He made this known in Sokoto at the formal unveiling of 136 housing units bought at the cost of N1.820bn by the Sokoto state government for issuing to low-income earners and other residents in the state on an owner-occupier basis to address the growing need for shelter in the state.

Obasanjo is on a 2-day official visit to Sokoto State to discuss lunch projects at the request of Governor Ahmed Aliyu.

He hinted that food security, 'stomach infrastructure’ were at the top, while personal and health safety took the lesser rankings.

Obasanjo also appreciated the giant strides being made by the Sokoto state governor, Ahmed Aliyu, whom he relates to as a leader working and running a good race.

Concerning transportation, construction of roads, agriculture, and housing projects, Obasanjo described him as a dedicated leader whose flexibility and performance were likened to those of a stallion horse.

He praised the governor's achievements in his first year and called attention to his strong leadership and successful projects. The former president noted that these qualities will make it easy for the governor to win a second term.

He also thanked Senator Aliyu Wamakko for being a good mentor to the governor and Sultan Sa'ad Abubakar for his contributions to the state's development.

Earlier, the governor explained that his housing projects fulfil his campaign promises and improve people's lives. He calls attention to the state's investment in various areas like roads, agriculture, and healthcare. He stressed their dedication to further development and thanked the former president for attending the event.
