24 hours after workers brought Nigeria's economy to a standstill, leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress reached an agreement with the federal government to suspend the ongoing indefinite strike.

The Organized Labour suspended the strike for five days at a meeting with the FG Tripartite Committee scheduled for 10 am today to give room for an uninterrupted meeting with the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage. 

The four-point resolution was signed by Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation; Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State Labour and Employment; Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC; and Festus Osifo, President of the TUC.

According to the resolutions, the federal government has pledged to pay a minimum wage higher than N60,000.

The resolution stated that the tripartite committee will meet every day for the next week to arrive at an acceptable National Minimum Wage.
“Labour in deference to the high esteem of the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s commitment in iv above undertakes to convene a meeting of its organs immediately to consider this commitment; and no worker would be victimized as a result of the industrial action,” part of the resolution read.
