Police Confirm 16 Persons Dead In Auto-Crash On Enugu Road

On Tuesday night, a tragic accident occurred on the Enugu-Opi-Nsukka road that took the lives of sixteen people. A commercial bus crashed into the fence of Maduka University in Ekwegbe, causing the eighteen-seater bus to catch fire.

Sadly, sixteen passengers lost their lives in the accident, but two passengers managed to survive and are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

According to Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu state police command spokesman, the accident involved a white Toyota Hummer bus with the commercial registration number DAS 215 XA from Bauchi State. The bus was traveling at a high speed when it lost control and crashed into the roadside fence of Maduka University.

The vehicle was carrying edible vegetables, other food items, and luggage of the passengers, but the exact point of departure and ultimate destination of the car remains unknown.

Despite the tragedy, police officers, soldiers, and concerned citizens worked together to save two of the passengers. The Igbo-Etiti Police Division has located and recovered their belongings.
