The National Chairman of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Julius Abure, who was apprehended by operatives of the Nigerian Police Force, in control of Zone 5, Benin City, Edo State, on Wednesday evening has regained his freedom.

It was gathered that Abure was released at 3.05 am on Thursday.

Tijani Momoh, spokesperson for Zone 5, had on Wednesday night, revealed that the LP National Chairman, along with the Edo State Chairman of the party, Kelly Ogbaloi and three others, were apprehended for “conspiracy, physical attack, attempted murder, criminality, grievous harm and conduct likely to cause disunity.”

However, Abure while addressing some of his supporters at the AIG Zone 5 headquarters shortly after his freedom, noted that what he endured is different from what other freedom fighters suffer all over the world.

He revealed that his freedom was effected by pressure mounted on the police from some quarters which he did not disclose, adding that vows were given that the state chairman, state publicity secretary and others apprehended together with him would be freed in the early hours of Thursday.

Abure reproached the All Progressives Congress, APC, for making life difficult for Nigerians, disclosing that since the February 2023 general elections, detractors of the LP had not relented in causing crises within the party, as several petitions bothering on frivolous allegations have been written against him.

However, he assured that neither he, nor the party, would be discouraged from chasing the goals of the party.
