Police Seek Partnership Against Insecurity in Abia

Emmanuella Amarachi Ozioko

The Nigeria Police force, Abia State command, has urged residents to collaborate with security agents in the state by stepping up their vigilance and actively contributing to community safety.

ASP Maureen Chinaka, the state police spokesperson, stressed during an interview with journalists on Friday, the critical role that residents should play in improving the safety and security of their communities.

Speaking with reporters via phone conversation, Chinaka underscored the essence of vigilance and partnership between citizens and security operatives.

"Security is everyone's responsibility. You, as citizens, have your part to play just as police operatives and other sister security agencies of the state have their part to play. You are not being security conscious if you leave your children with somebody you don’t know”, she said.

Her remarks were on the heels of the successful rescue of three abducted children in a coordinated operation across Anambra and Delta states by the Abia State Police Command.

The children, Israel Osinachi (four years old), Gideon Osinachi (eight years old), and Obioma Divine Osinachi (six years old), were abducted by an unknown cyclist hired by their grandmother to take them home after visiting her in Amoba Okoro village, Ikwuanno LGA of Abia State.

It was gathered that the children were abducted on May 10, 2024.

In a major breakthrough after a relentless police investigation, all three abducted children were recovered. Obioma was the first to be found on May 21st in Ekwulobia, Anambra. Two days later, on May 23, Gideon was located in Nkpor, also in Anambra. The search finally culminated in Israel's rescue on June 13th in Warri, Delta State. The police operation also led to the arrest of five suspects, including a reverend sister.

The PPRO promised the residents that Abia State remained relatively calm because of the diligent efforts of the police and other security forces.
