Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, revealed his administration's intention to immortalise the late former Minister of Finance, Dr. Onaolapo Soleye, known for resisting Naira devaluation in the 1980s.

Governor Abiodun announced this at the final burial ceremony of Dr. Soleye at Owu Baptist Church, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Abiodun acknowledged Dr. Soleye's role in the development of the Western Region, emphasizing that Oodua Investment Group was established while he served as Commissioner for Industries.

He made significant contributions to the success of Ogun State while serving as Commissioner for Trade, Industries, and Cooperatives, and later, Works and Housing, and Finance.

Governor Abiodun added that it was under the watch of Dr. Soleye as Commissioner for Industries that the Gateway Hotels were built and commissioned across the state.

During the military regime of Gen Muhammadu Buhari, the deceased held the position of Finance Minister from 1984 to 1985. It was during this time that he opposed the devaluation of the Naira and supervised the printing of new currency notes.
