A suspected cult clash claimed the life of an unidentified male adult along the Ondo road area of Ile-Ife, Osun State on Saturday.

The source revealed that the victim was attacked while purchasing an item along the road.

Armed men on a motorcycle shot him in the head, resulting in his immediate death.

The sound of gunshots caused panic in the area, prompting residents to flee to avoid being caught in potential crossfire.

“One person was killed along Ondo road by suspected cultists.

Reports suggest the victim was also involved in cult activities.

The situation caused significant tension, and many people fled, fearing further violence. The police eventually arrived to calm the situation,” the source explained.

The Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is underway, and a manhunt has been initiated to apprehend the suspects.

“There was a suspected cult clash along Ondo road. The victim was attacked while buying something. He was shot in the head, which resulted in his death. His body has been taken to a morgue, and we have started an investigation to arrest the perpetrators,” Opalola said.

This incident follows a report from February 8, where multiple fatalities were recorded in clashes between rival fraternities in Ilesa, Osun State, with up to six people reportedly killed. Security sources noted that these killings occurred in various locations in Ilesa and Osu towns.

Opalola confirmed the earlier clashes but refrained from disclosing the casualty figures for security reasons, noting, “Revealing a figure could escalate the crisis as rival groups might claim higher casualties, leading to more violence. We have increased security in the affected areas.”
