Tinubu Must not Fiddle with Nigeria’s Pension Funds Asset – Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, has cautioned the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to adhere strictly to the provisions of the Pension Reform Act of 2014 (PRA 2014) and the revised Regulation on Investment of Pension Assets issued by the National Pension Commission (PenCom).

Atiku emphasized the importance of not tampering with Nigeria's Pension Funds Asset, stating this in a statement he personally signed.

The statement came in reaction to a disclosure by the Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, who hinted at using N20 trillion from the nation’s pension funds and other funds to finance critical infrastructure projects across the country.

Atiku condemned this move, describing it as misguided and potentially disastrous for retired Nigerians who rely on their pensions for survival.

Atiku called for immediate cessation of the initiative, emphasizing the need for the government to act within the confines of existing pension laws.

He stressed that any attempt to exceed the investment limits outlined in the pension regulations must be halted. Atiku also highlighted the importance of introducing necessary reforms to attract private investment and address infrastructure challenges in Nigeria.
