Nigeria's President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council have made public the dismissal of the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development.

This was revealed in a press release shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. The agreement was reached at the FEC meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.

The statement said, “President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council dismissed the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development.

“A new ministry of regional development will be established to manage all the regional development commissions, such as the Niger Delta Development Commission, Southwest Development Commission, Northwest Development Commission, and Northeast Development Commission.”

The president’s spokesperson also confirmed the role previously held by the Ministry of Sports Development will now be moved to the National Sports Commission, which will take charge of sports-related activities in Nigeria.

“The National Sports Commission will oversee the responsibility of the Ministry of Sports,” he said.

Similarly, the FEC accepted the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, creating a single entity.
