In the early hours of Wednesday, an unknown individual set fire to a mosque located in the Laraba Abasawa community inside the Gezawa local government area of Kano State.

The attacker, whose identity was still unknown at the time of publication, reportedly carried out the attack while worshippers were praying in the morning by lighting a fire with petrol.

Witnesses stated that after setting the mosque on fire, the arsonist closed the entrance, keeping people inside and making the situation worse.

According to one of the eyewitnesses, who described the traumatic scene, it took some time for others outside to learn about the incident and rush to the victims' aid as they struggled to escape the burning building.

The aftermath of the attack saw at least 20 worshippers sustaining injuries, prompting an urgent response from emergency services. The injured were promptly transported to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano where they are currently receiving medical attention.

The Kano State Police Command was yet to react on the event.
