The Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has made it clear that the police force will accept the federal government's decision to establish state police.

During a working visit to Lagos on Monday, IGP Egbetokun, represented by the Coordinating Deputy Inspector General of Police for the South-West, Mr. Abiodun Alabi, defined the force's position amidst different viewpoints.
Egbetokun urged officers to continue to carry out their duty under the Nigerian constitution, emphasising discipline, respect for human rights, and professional conduct.

He warned against using firearms and emphasised the importance of careful and lawful use.

The IGP also underscored the significance of mental and physical health for the police force. He directed the officer in charge of Police Medical to perform mental and psychological tests on command personnel in Lagos State.

Egbetokun mentioned ongoing collaborations with consultants to provide appropriate accommodation for officers, with plans to help personnel access their homes soon.

The police boss warned against rivalry with other security agencies, stating that the Nigeria Police Force alone cannot guarantee the country's security.

To fight cultism, he urged officers to engage with youths in their command areas and educate them on its dangers.
