In an act of violence, armed bandits struck the town of Zurmi in Zamfara State, targeting the palace of the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Bello Muhammad Bunu. The attack, which occurred on Wednesday around 10 pm local time, resulted in the tragic deaths of three individuals and the abduction of several residents.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bandits, armed and heavily equipped, launched their assault on the palace, unleashing chaos and terror upon the town. Additionally, they targeted the residence of Colonel Bala Muhammad Mande (rtd), a former Military Administrator of Nasarawa State and a prominent figure in the community.
Although Colonel Mande was not present at the time of the attack, Emir Bunu was inside the palace, showing the audacity of the assailants. The bandits' rampage extended beyond mere violence as they also inflicted damage on critical infrastructure, destroying a telecommunications mast and setting ablaze two generating sets near the emir's residence.
The attack has sent shockwaves throughout the region, highlighting the ongoing security challenges facing Zamfara State and underscoring the urgent need for robust measures to combat criminality and safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
