APC candidate wins Oyo's Saki West Bye-Election

Gbadamosi Azeezah

The Court of Appeal had nullified the victory of Shittu, who was initially declared the winner of the March 18, 2023 election for Saki West state constituency, ordering a rerun in two units.

The rerun took place in Units 11, Ward six, Odo Osun, Kinikini, and Unit 19, Ward 11, Ogbalanja, Saki West state constituency.

After the rerun, Shittu secured 13,850 votes, while Julius Okedoyin of the Peoples Democratic Party, his closest rival, received 13,670 votes.

State Resident Electoral Commissioner Adeniran Tella, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police Adebola Hamzat, earlier visited the two polling units.

Tella praised the smooth conduct of the exercise and explained that the rerun was ordered due to a court mandate, ensuring that over 200 voters unable to participate in the general election could cast their votes. Additionally, concerns about overvoting in one polling station prompted the rerun.
