The Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, is calling on the political class in the state to embrace their political differences and set aside petty jealousies for the unity and development of the state.

At the grand reception in honor of certain distinguished sons and a daughter of the state from the Ekeremor Local Government Area, Diri stated that politics had concluded and it was now the era of governance.

On February 14, 2024, the governor and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, were sworn in for their second term in office after winning the November 11, 2023 governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party.

The governor, through his spokesperson, Daniel Alabrah, emphasized in a statement on Sunday that it was time to put an end to politicking and encouraged people, regardless of political affiliations, to support his administration in advancing development.

He stated that his administration was establishing a new Bayelsa where political boundaries would not obstruct the sustainable development of the state.

Diri, in his expression of profound gratitude, thanked President Bola Tinubu for appointing illustrious sons and a daughter of the state into various positions of trust in his administration, and also appreciated the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, for his involvement in Lokpobiri's ministerial appointment.

Diri also assured the people that the construction work on the Nembe-Brass road in Bayelsa East senatorial district would proceed, and indicated that the Federal Government had expressed interest in the project.
