The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, addressed speculation regarding his potential candidacy for the governorship on Thursday, asserting that he possesses the necessary experience to run.

However, he emphasized that he has not seriously considered entering the race, countering claims made by political opponents.

Obasa spoke shortly after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu unveiled a budget of over N3 trillion for 2025. He expressed that his primary focus remains on strengthening the party rather than pursuing personal ambitions.

"I have made it a personal task to mobilise people on the platform of Mandate," he stated, clarifying that his efforts have been misinterpreted as a quest for governorship.

He criticized those attempting to undermine his intentions, stating, “To the blackmailers who have embarked on the mission to distort and redefine our mission, let me state it unequivocally here, our intention is to promote our party.”

While acknowledging the speculation surrounding his political future, Obasa reiterated that becoming governor is not currently a priority for him.

In response to rumors about his family ties being leveraged for political validation, he clarified that while he is connected to the Obasa family in Ojo, he does not need local legitimacy to contest in the elections. If he decides to run, it will be from Agege.

During the assembly session, lawmakers expressed their confidence in Obasa's leadership through a unanimous vote.
