Kebbi Assembly Suspends Member Due to Reckless Remarks

Gbadamosi Azeezah

The Kebbi State House of Assembly has suspended the member representing Birnin Kebbi North Constituency, Hassan Umar, for alleged unguarded utterances, according to a Press statement signed by Suleiman Shamaki, the Clerk of the Assembly, and shared with our correspondent.

Reportedly, the member was suspended due to his unguarded utterances and instigation of some members against the leadership of the house.

Part of the statement reads, “I, Suleiman Shamaki, the Clerk of Kebbi State House of Assembly, have been directed to inform the general public that during its Executive Session on Friday, April 12, 2024, the assembly unanimously resolved to suspend Hassan Umar, the member representing Birnin Kebbi North constituency, due to his unguarded utterances."

The statement also outlined the lawmaker's other transgressions, like inciting some members against the House leadership and fostering discord between the Executive and the legislature in the House.

In October 2019, reports emerged that the All Progressives Congress in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi State had suspended a council chairmanship aspirant, Shafiu Abubakar, due to unlawful utterances.
