PDP Calls for Immediate Release of Detained Voters in Edo Election

Gbadamosi Azeezah

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a statement demanding the immediate release of voters, including its members and supporters, who were reportedly detained by security operatives allegedly aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the ongoing governorship election in Edo State.

The PDP claims that these arrests are part of a coordinated effort by the APC, in collaboration with certain police officials, to intimidate and suppress the electorate as the party faces potential defeat in the elections.

The statement highlights a specific incident where a voter was allegedly abducted by armed individuals linked to the APC while waiting to cast his vote at Uromi Ward 8, Unit 3. The PDP characterized this act as indicative of the APC's desperation amid fears of losing the election.

Historically, the PDP has raised concerns about what it describes as a systematic attempt by the APC to undermine the electoral process through voter intimidation.

The party asserts that its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, enjoys significant support from the people of Edo State, which they believe is contributing to the APC's anxiety about the election outcome.

In response to these developments, the PDP has called on the citizens of Edo State to remain steadfast in defending their democratic rights and to continue exercising their right to vote without fear of aggression or intimidation.

The party emphasizes that the electorate's resolve against perceived threats remains strong and unwavering.
