The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has condemned the remarks made by Philip Shaibu, the former deputy governor of the state, describing Asue Ighodalo, the party's governorship candidate in the coming election as an outsider.

Additionally, Shaibu publicly announced on Sunday that he would be endorsing Senator Monday Okpebholo, the APC's candidate, in the race.

Rev. Olu Martins, the governorship campaign council deputy director general of the Asue Ogie Campaign Management Council, stated that they were taken aback by Shaibu's political argument because, as National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) activists, they were trained to argue on issues rather than to be sentimental or ethnicity advocates.

According to Martins, the claim made by Shaibu in his "home boy" slogan is unfounded since, despite not having grown up in Edo, the candidate is nonetheless well-known in his home state.

He stated that he believed Shaibu would inform everyone that the candidate he wished to support had the ability, intellect, talent for greatness, and intelligence—qualities that are essential to a great leader.

Like others, he ought to have resigned from the PDP and backed the APC candidate as the right thing to do.

Rev. Martins further claimed that Shaibu's reasoning was that of weak people.
