He has labeled these reports as malicious and baseless.

Akpabio has emphasized that the Senate, under his leadership, remains stable and harmonious. He firmly believes that the Senate cannot be distracted by what he perceives as a coordinated media attack from outside the National Assembly.

Media reports surfaced over the weekend, alleging that efforts were underway to remove Akpabio as the Senate President when the Senate reconvenes on September 26, 2023. According to these reports, two prominent senators from the North West and other members of the national assembly were reportedly discussing and devising plans to execute this move.

The reports further claimed that these senators had concerns about Akpabio's perceived alignment with the presidency, fearing that it might hinder his effective execution of his duties.

Senator Akpabio, in a statement released by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Hon Eseme Eyiboh, categorically dismissed these reports as baseless fabrications. He asserted that they were rooted in malicious intent and aimed at achieving unclear objectives.

Eyiboh pointed out that the Senate had already moved beyond the highly contested leadership election and that the attempts to drag senators who initially did not support the current leadership into a non-existent conspiracy were unwarranted and unkind.

He further clarified that senators were currently on vacation, spending time in their constituencies and other chosen locations after the demanding activities surrounding the inauguration, ministerial screening, and other constructive engagements. Eyiboh strongly urged the media not to lend credence to these conspiratorial tales and to avoid damaging the reputations they have painstakingly built over time.
