The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially merged with the Accord Party, endorsing Dr. Bright Enabulele as their unified candidate ahead of the Edo governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

During a joint press conference announcing the merger, Dr. Enabulele expressed his enthusiasm for the merger, welcoming SDP members and emphasizing their shared commitment to democratic principles and governance reform.

He stated, “We’re thrilled to integrate SDP members into the Accord fold. Their decision to join us reflects a collective desire for democratic governance and a departure from autocratic practices. Together, we’re dedicated to delivering fresh and inclusive leadership that every Edo indigene deserves.”

Yakubu Asimu, Deputy Chairman of the SDP in Edo State, articulated that the merger highlights a growing dissatisfaction among SDP members regarding the current political sector.

He said, “We’re weary of the entrenched autocracy and lack of progress in Edo State. Joining forces with Accord demonstrates our commitment to change and transparent, accountable government.”

In addition, there are indications that at least two other political parties are expected to endorse Dr. Enabulele soon, suggesting an increase in support for his candidacy and a potential shift in the political dynamics of Edo State.
